Through its activities, the D&A Association contributes to the professional development of specialists in the construction field (architects and engineers) while also serving as a tool to enhance understanding and communication between professionals from other fields and those in the construction and, more specifically, architectural sectors. To this end, the activities are structured at different knowledge levels, catering distinctly to non-specialists (or informed enthusiasts), including students, university students, or professionals from fields outside construction, as well as to construction professionals (designers, builders, specialized decision-makers, etc.).
And perhaps one more thing is worth mentioning: they say there is a time for everything. Paradoxically (or not), the time for learning never ends, and the willingness to learn is a sign of youth.
Even though I have mentioned this statistic before, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 37,3 million people are injured each year due to tripping or slipping on floors, and 684.000 of them lose their lives.
As a result, domestic accidents are considered the second leading cause of accidental death worldwide, following traffic accidents.
The staircase is a construction element with multiple roles: it provides access to the different levels of the building, it is an escape route, it is a major decorative element – a monumental sculpture – that enriches and gives uniqueness and personality to the space.
There are clear requirements for configuring its geometric elements: the relationship between the step and the riser, the ramp widths and landing widths, the free heights... and yet: what an amazing variety of stairs there is in the world!
The course "ACOUSTICS IN BUILDINGS. PROTECTION AGAINST NOISE. ACHIEVEMENT OF INTERIOR ACOUSTIC COMFORT" is addressed to both architects and civil engineers, as well as doctors and sociologists, dealing with the problem of controlling the noise throughout its entire course - from its occurence to the receiver - offering solutions for the implementation of field-specific principles for different types of buildings and their functions.
